The four crew aboard SpaceX Crew Dragon "Resilience" have successfully launched from launch complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center, and are about to reach higher than any crew since the Apollo program. The goals are lofty, and Polaris Dawn is guaranteed to set new records in civilian space flight.
The SpaceX teams were ready to go very early on Tuesday morning as the crew strapped in to prepare for launch on this historic mission. The weather continued to present challenges as the first launch window approached, and the team opted to divert to the second launch window about and hour and a half later, with launch eventually occurring at approximately 9:25AM GMT.
As the crew settle into orbit, several safety checks will be conducted before a go-ahead is given to proceed with it's higher orbital insertion to 1400KM above Earth.
Once the crew reach this higher orbit, it will kick off a 5 day mission that includes a variety of scientific experiments, and the first ever all civilian space walk. We covered the mission specifics in this previous post.
Stay tuned to Aerospace Review as we cover more on this mission as it unfolds.
